Waxing Idiotic

I took down the admittedly awesome Halloween skin for my comic site and decided to actually change more than just the banner and the background back to “normal”. So, bam.

I mostly wanted to start getting away from the mustard orange/yellow color I had previously. I really like that color, but I’m starting to get sick of it. So behold, lighter yellow. I’m toying with some totally new colors, and even some new layouts, but that is a major overhaul and I’m not sure I want to do that just yet. Maybe next year?

Yeah, the new Ubuntu release is out of beta and ready for prime time. I installed it over my old-ish Mandriva from last year, and I dig the gnome update (which isn’t that new, but new to me). It’s a bit more flashy, and seems to play a lot better with my tons of media files. For some reason I always had trouble with Mandriva reading my NTFS hard drives consistently, which appears to be a non-issue with Ubuntu (why?). And I’m pretty happy that the install size fits on a cd instead of a dvd, I didn’t need all those extra library packages that came with the old Mandriva stuff and I was usually too lazy to deselect the stuff I didn’t want. Overall a good OS, I’m probably going to attempt to upgrade my work machine to this soon (which has Fedora 4…yuck).

All technical stuff aside, this Ubuntu shirt is pretty bitching, right?

Other stuff:

Cut off a bunch of my hair. It was getting long and flippy, which is cool for awhile but starts to get out of control real fast. I sometimes wish I would have grown a mullet when I had the chance, just to say that I had done it. There are two types of people that grow mullets:

Lame people:

I guess I was always a little afraid that I would fall into the latter. Like, would I come off as being all funny and ironic about having a mullet, or would I just look like an asshole with a bad haircut? I could have just made it into a bitching ponytail I guess. There’s nothing lame about a ponytail.

My comics are coming along slowly but surely. It’s a surprising amount of work to make these fuckers, I think mostly because I’m not really that good at drawing stuff. I’m actually quite good at copying a drawing, but am not good at all with original ones. I think it’s mainly because I’m unsure whether I want to have a set style of characters or just draw them as I feel like. A set style makes it easier to reproduce and identify as my own, but is difficult to come up with something I like enough to keep using. If I just draw them differently all the time it takes much longer but feels more “fresh”. I’ll probably compromise and have 3 or 4 set styles. Either way, here are some that I’ve been working on and should be done soon:
